The Triangle of Life - Boaz Ko
at 2025-08-01 10:17:34.0 / 406 HitsWe who are Christians live our daily lives in three spaces: home, work, and church. These three areas are distinct, but I believe they should be closely connected in the life of a believer.
The home is a place of rest and love. Tim Keller says, “The home is the most practical place to experience God’s grace.” We believe that in the home, we find emotional healing, pass on our faith, and lay the foundation for the gospel. Faith is never far away. We believe it is found in a kind word and in the prayers we say together at mealtimes.
The workplace is not merely a means of earning a living. The moment it becomes a means of livelihood, unhappiness begins. Canadian theologian Paul Stevens says, “The workplace is a place of ministry where God’s gifts are poured out into the world.” We want to understand that the talents we possess are gifts from God, enabling us to contribute to our neighbors in the world, and that honesty and diligence are practical expressions of our faith in the world.
Then what about the church? I see the church as a community that holds onto its mission and helps us reexamine our lives. Eugene Peterson viewed the church as a “refuge and training ground,” while John Piper described it as a “compass revealing God’s glory.” Through Sunday worship, we align the direction of our lives and gain the strength to move forward as disciples sent into the world.
This ideal triangular life seems unrealistic in my current situation, so I am swimming on the surface of spiritual depression. As I swim in the present tense, one image comes to mind. God is at the center of this triangular life. The phrase “Christ at the center” seems to be a very accurate expression.
I think it can be summarized as follows: the family is the root of our identity, the workplace is the manifestation of our gifts, and the church is the headquarters that provides purpose and direction. When these three areas are in balance, our lives can walk the path of mission without wavering, I conclude in my meditation.
Finally, I hope that we will live out our mission today within the triangle of life.
Remembering the words of Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, given God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
