The Future Self That Leads the Present - Boaz
at 2025-12-06 05:50:29.0 / 235 HitsPeople often say, “My present self creates my future.”
But psychologist Benjamin Hardy says the opposite: “Your present self is actually being guided by your future self.”
In other words, our lives are not merely an extension of the past, but a journey responding to the calling of the future.
The clearer our future becomes, the more unwavering our choices today will be. But when the future is blurred, the present easily compromises. The future self is not simply a “slightly better version” of who we are now—it is a self that has grown beyond what we can currently imagine. Like a quiet Pied Piper, that future self gently leads us, realigning our habits, relationships, and daily decisions.
What is even more remarkable is this: the more vividly we see our future, the more quickly change begins. We fear failure, yet failing forward toward the future can be a greater step of faith than safely succeeding in the present. And so we are invited to ask:
“How does my future self see who I am today?”
Ultimately, the size of that future depends on who we believe God to be. Those who believe in a small god will live toward a small future. But those who believe in the great and mighty God will walk toward a far greater and deeper calling.
God declares:
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
The future is not something we merely wait for—it is a direction we choose in God. Today’s decisions do not come from “who I am now,” but from the future self I am being called to become in Him. This insight is one I sincerely wish to share with you who are reading this today.
